Import the table of contents from your AI

Turn your course brief into modules and lessons with one round trip to your AI chat.

Before you start

Create the course and fill in its brief first: see Create a course and describe it.

Warning

Importing replaces the whole course outline. Every existing lesson is deleted, content included, and the new list of modules and lessons takes its place.

Steps

  1. On the Contents step, click Generate with AI, then Copy prompt. The button shows only while the course has no lessons.
  2. Paste the prompt into your AI chat and run it.
  3. Copy the whole JSON block the chat returned.
  4. Paste it into Paste the AI response and click Import lessons.

What you should see

The message "Lessons imported", and LMSable moves you to the Lessons step. If the course already had any filled content, LMSable takes a backup snapshot named "Before importing a new table of contents" before replacing the outline, so a new import you regret can be undone from the Versions section of the Export step.

If something goes wrong

  • Import fails with an error about the JSON: the AI's answer was cut short, wrapped in extra text, or edited by hand. Go back to your AI chat, copy the full answer again and paste it without adding or removing anything.
  • No backup snapshot was taken: this happens when the course had no filled lessons, when the account is at its snapshot limit for the plan, or when the backup itself fails - the import still runs.
  • The outline looks generic: add more detail to Target audience and Goal in the brief, then fix the outline with Edit outline. Generate with AI returns only when the course has no lessons.
