Glossary: SCORM, LMS, H5P and other terms

Short definitions for terms used across LMSable and this help center.

LMS

Learning Management System. The platform your organization uses to host and track training, such as Moodle, LearnDash, Canvas or TalentLMS. LMSable does not host courses for learners - it produces files your LMS imports and runs.

SCORM

A packaging standard for e-learning content. LMSable exports SCORM 1.2: a single .zip file your LMS uploads as one course. SCORM is also how the course reports progress, score and completion back to the LMS while a learner works through it.

H5P

A format for a single interactive activity, such as a quiz, a branching scenario or an interactive video. An .h5p file is one activity, not a whole course - you typically add it to a page inside your LMS.

Course

In Course Builder, a course is one project: a table of contents, its lessons, and the settings that describe it. A course exports to a single SCORM package.

Lesson

One item inside a course's table of contents; lessons are grouped into modules. A lesson has a type - Lesson, Video, Interaction, Quiz or Test - and it holds the content a learner sees for that step.

Block

The building unit inside a lesson of type Lesson, such as a paragraph of text, an image, a quote or an accordion. That lesson type is made of blocks, arranged with the block editor; interactions and quizzes are built outside it.

Interaction

A lesson whose content is generated by pasting an AI chat's answer, as opposed to a lesson you type by hand or a quiz. LMSable turns your brief into a prompt, you run it in your own AI chat, and you paste the structured answer back.

Scenario (branching scenario)

A lesson type where the learner makes choices that lead to different outcomes, built from connected scenes and endings rather than a straight line of content. Scenario lessons are not available to every account yet.

Version (snapshot)

A saved copy of the whole course at one point in time. LMSable creates a version automatically every time you export or create a review link, and you can also save one manually. Restoring a version replaces the current course with that saved copy; the state from just before the restore is saved as a version first.

A link you share with someone who has no LMSable account, so they can view the course and leave comments on specific lessons.

Plan

Free or Pro. The plan on your account decides limits such as how many courses, lessons and review links you can have. Pro is not on sale yet, so until it launches every account has today's limits - see Free and Pro: what is included.
