Export your course as HTML

Download your course as a .zip that runs in a browser without an LMS. Use it when you have no LMS, or when learners should open the course from an intranet page, a shared drive, static web hosting or a laptop without internet.

Before you start

  • At least one lesson has content. Empty lessons are left out, as in the SCORM export.
  • If you need scores and completion in a learning platform, use the SCORM export instead. The HTML export reports nothing to anyone.

Export the course

  1. Open My courses and open the course you want to export.
  2. In the course steps, click Export.
  3. If a verification check appears above the buttons, wait until it passes.
  4. Click Download HTML.

Your browser saves a file named after the course, ending in -html.zip.

Open the course

  1. Unzip the file. Keep all files and folders together.
  2. Double-click index.html, or upload the whole folder to your intranet, SharePoint library or web hosting and share the link to index.html.

The package also contains README.txt with the same instruction for your learners.

What is saved

  • Progress, the last position in the course and quiz scores are saved in the learner's browser. Reopening the course in the same browser continues where the learner left off, and the end screen shows the score.
  • The learner sees the note "Your progress is saved in this browser only." and can close it.
  • Nothing is sent to you or to LMSable. Another browser, another device or cleared browser data starts the course from the beginning.

Limits

  • No reporting: you do not see who finished the course or their scores. For that, use the SCORM export.
  • Fonts go into the package, so text looks the same offline. If a font cannot be added during the export, the course uses the system font of the device.
  • Videos linked from YouTube or Vimeo need an internet connection. Offline, the learner sees "This video needs an internet connection." in place of the video. Videos you uploaded into Video blocks are in the package and play offline.
  • The same plan rules apply as for SCORM: Free exports carry a small "Made with LMSable" mark, Pro exports can carry your logo and font. See Free and Pro.

If something goes wrong

  • Download HTML is inactive. No lesson has content yet, or the verification check has not passed.
  • The course opens but shows no lessons. The files were not unzipped, or index.html was moved away from the other files. Unzip the whole package and open index.html from that folder.
  • Progress is gone. The course was opened in another browser or the browser data was cleared. Progress stays only in the browser that saved it.
